ways to accumulate a 10 hour rest period (paraphrased
from 395.1(g)) 1)
10 consecutive unbroken hours 'Off Duty'
2) 10 consecutive unbroken hours in the 'Sleeper Berth' 3) A combination totaling 10 hours 'Off Duty' and
'Sleeper' if it is consecutive and unbroken. 4) An equivalent period of 10 hours that has one rest period of at least 8 hours in the 'Sleeper Berth' and a separate period of at least 2 hours but less than ten hours in the 'Sleeper Berth' or 'Off Duty', or any combination. NOTE: Any time less than 8hrs in the sleeper will count against you! That includes 'Sleeper Berth and 'Off Duty'. You can read the actual regs HERE for the 4 methods. Scroll down 395.1(g) to where it reads: " (g)(1)(ii)(A) The term "equivalent of at least 10 consecutive hours off duty" means a period of..." Read carefully! Suggestion: When you come on duty, count out 14 hours from the time you start and mark it on your log - Thats when you'll need to stop. Plan your trip accordingly!
